A child who is overweight or obese is also more likely to have problems such as low self-esteem, Poor grades in school, desolation. The prevalence of morbid obesity has risen sharply in recent years, even among paediatric patients.

Childhood Obesity prevention strategies and policies have been proposed to counter obesity, and some of those proposed policies focus on altering the food system to control food consumption habits and thus obesity and nutrition by changing the choices of available to consumers or by changing the incentives to choose. To reverse the obesity epidemic, places and practices take to support healthy eating & active living. The recommended strategies to prevent obesity are early care and research strategies, School health guidelines to promote healthy eating, physical activity and school-based childhood obese prevention strategies school lunch programs, after-school programs.

  • Counselling at schools and primary care
  • Multidisciplinary treatment
  • Public health strategies to prevent obesity

Track 3: Genetics of Obesity

Occurrences of monogenic types of obese are evidence that obesity may be caused by genetic mutations. The most common forms of obesity are probably the result of variations within a great number of genes. Many individuals have a genetic predisposition that may lead to obesity. Researchers have found many obesity susceptibility genes and the combination of an obesogenic environment and a genetic predisposition will about inescapably result in the development of obesity. In brief, current knowledge brings to the conclusion that genetic causes may be involved in the etiology of obesity and, exclusive of very rare severe obese cases; the genes involved are probably genes that interact with environment factors related to energy intake and expenditure to increase the risk of obesity.

Track 4: Effects of Obesity on Women’s Health and Pregnancy

Obesity affects the health of women in many ways. Being overweight or obese increases the relative risk of diabetes and coronary artery disease in women.

  • Gestational diabetes: Women who will get more fat during the pregnancy more likely to have diabetes that develops during pregnancy than are women who have a normal weight.
  • Preeclampsia and obesity: Women who are obesity are at increased risk of developing a pregnancy complication characterized by high blood pressure and signs of damage to other organ system, often the kidneys (preeclampsia).
  • Overdue pregnancy: Obesity increases the risk that pregnancy will continue expected due date.
  • Pregnancy loss: Obesity increases the risk of miscarriage during pregnancy and effects the child growth.

Track 6: Obesity and Diabetes:

Obesity and diabetes are mutual. Equal to the Centre for Disease Control, of the people who are diagnosed with type II diabetes, between 80-90% are also diagnosed as obese. Every three seconds, someone is diagnosed with diabetes. Type II diabetes is a for life (chronic) disease in which there are high levels of sugar (glucose) in the blood and the cells discard the insulin. Type II diabetes is the most common form of diabetes. Weight gain is common in people who share insulin to treat diabetes. That is because the more reject we use to maintain our blood glucose level, the major sugar is absorbed into our cells, rather than eliminated by our body. The absorbed glucose is stored as fat, which makes us gain weight.

Such as Hypertension, Hyperlipidaemia, Diabetes Type 2, Sleepapnea, Metabolic Syndrome. Any time someone has an elevated weight, the person at risk with these cardiovascular diseases. Adipose tissues are located very close to vessels with the highest permeability, the lowest hydrostatic pressure, and the shortest distance for transport of molecules to and from the adipocytes. Obesity can leads to coronary heart disease and congestive heart failure. BMI is to define obesity and BMI <21 may be associated with the protection from coronary heart disease mortality. BMI near 30 may still not congestive heart failure. a BMI >23 but <25 had a 50% increase in risk of nonfatal or fatal coronary heart disease, and men aged 40 to 65 years with a BMI >25 but <29 had a 72% increased risk.

Track 11:  Weight loss Medication:

Anti-Obesity Medicine or weight loss drugs are all Pharmacology agents that decrease or control weight. The drugs prescribed for obese persons mainly work by either changing an individual’s hungriness or by the absorption of extra calories in the body. Weight loss in persons who are obese may reduce health risks. Studies have found that weight loss with some medicine advances blood pressure, blood cholesterol, triglycerides and insulin resistance. Some research suggests that long-term use of weight-loss medicines may help individuals keep off the lost weight.

Track 12: Obesity and Bariatric Surgery

Bariatric surgical techniques cause weight loss by restricting the amount of food the stomach can hold, causing malabsorption of nutrients, or by a grouping of both gastric restriction and malabsorption. Bariatric procedures also often cause hormonal changes. Most weight loss surgeries today are done by using minimally offensive techniques (laparoscopic surgery).

Currently, bariatric surgery may be optimal for adults with severe obesity. Body mass index (BMI), a measure of height in relative to weight is used to express levels of obese. Clinically severe obesity is a BMI > 40 or a BMI > 35 with a serious health problem connected to obesity. Such health problems could be type 2 diabetes, heart disease or severe sleep apnea.

Track 13: Obesity and Diet

It’s no secret that the amount of calories people eat and drink has a direct impact on their weight: Consume the same number of calories that the body burns over time, and weight stays stable. Consume more than the body burns, weight goes up. Less, weight goes down. But what about the type of calories: Does it matter whether they come from specific nutrients-fat, protein, or carbohydrate? Specific  foods-whole grains or potato chips? Specific diets-the Mediterranean diet or the “Twinkie” diet? And what about when or where people consume their calories.

Track 14: Physical Activity and Yoga

Yoga is an activity that upgrade muscles strength and flexibility while centering your thoughts and relaxing you. The action began in India more than 5,000 years. The most popular types of yoga in the U.S. are Hatha, Iyengar, Kundalini and Ashtanga. Yoga is beneficial for stress depletion, reducing neck pain, lowering high blood pressure, and reducing asthma symptoms.

Little is known about the metabolic and heart rate reaction to a typical hatha yoga meeting. The purposes of this research

1) To determine whether a typical yoga practice used various postures meets the present recommendations for levels of physical activity required to better and maintain health and cardiovascular fitness.

2) To direct the reliability of metabolic costs of yoga across sessions.

3) To collate the metabolic costs of yoga practice to those of treadmill walking.

Overweight people should lose obesity gradually. For safe and healthy weight loss, try not to exceed a rate of two pounds per week. Sometimes, people with major health problems associated with obesity may have legitimate reasons for losing weight quickly. If so, a physician's supervision is required. Successful weight loss and weight management should mark all of these factors. And that's the reason to ignore products and Weight Management programs that promise quick and easy results, or that promise permanent effect without permanent changes in your lifestyle. Any ad that says you can lose obese without lowering the calories you take in and increasing your physical activity is selling fantasy and false hope. In fact, some people would call it fraud. Further the use of some products may not be safe.

Why Toronto?

There is rise in the number of deaths due to obesity-related diseases in Toronto than in rest of the Canada. There are major advancements in researches in the field of obesity in Toronto. There is also increase in the compound annual growth rate of obesity market. Based on the above mentioned reasons, obesity 2016 was decided to be held in Toronto, Canada.

A 2004 study called the Canadian Community Health Survey, found 29% of Canadians 18 and older were obese and 41% more were overweight (as determined by BMI). In children and adolescents, 8% were obese and 18% overweight. Rate of obesity varied significantly between the provinces from an obesity rate of 19% in British Columbia to a rate’s 34% in Newfoundland & Labrador.

In 2004, the prevalence of obesity in the three most populated provinces, Ontario, British Columbia and Quebec matched those of about thirty US states, at a level between 20% and 25%. The study found people that live in cities had significantly lower obesity rates in Nova Scotia, Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta and British Columbia. In Quebec the relation approached significance (p=0.08), while in Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick & Saskatchewan the rate of obesity did not vary significantly between CMA and rural areas. Obesity in such populated areas often attack on young adults, ages ranging from 16 - 21. Studies shows that an single who's going through extensive learning often binges on food to help release stress. People dealing with stress generally find eating as method to help ease or cope with their problems leading to obese.

A 2005 report released by the Canada government's Economics Division reported that in 2004 approximately 6.8 million Canada adults aged 20 to 64 were overweight and an additional 4.5 million were obesity. Roughly speaking an adult male is considered overweight when his body weight exceeds the maximum over weight for his height and obesity when his body weight is 20% or more over this weight. A Similar guideline holds true for women but at a threshold of 25% rather than 20%. Dramatic growth in overweight and obesity among Canadians over the past 30 years have been deemed to constitute an epidemic.
